Self Care, Nail Care

Self Care: Nails

What makes a girl feel beautiful?  Well, a lot of different things can bring about that feeling. The people around her, her outfit of the day, the hairstyle she’s wearing, and quite simply the manicure she just received.  If you are anything like me, when I get a manicure I feel so put together. Simply pretty! Self care at its best! Your nail care is important to your overall look. Here are some things to keep in mind when it comes to your nails.

  1. KEEP NAILS DRY AND CLEAN

As much as possible keep your nails dry and clean to prevent any type of bacteria growing underneath your fingernail.  When cleaning with household supplies use a pair of rubber gloves to prevent chemical exposure to your nails.

  1.  MOISTURIZE YOUR HANDS

Always carry lotion or a cream to keep your hands moisturized.  This will to assure not only your skin but your nails are well hydrated.  Which mean less splitting or hanging nails.

  1. TRIM AND FILE

You should keep an emory board or nail file with you at all times.  This could curtail a minor situation from getting worse, where you realize you have the beginnings of a hanging nail or a nail snag.  Always file in one direction.

  1. VITAMINS

If you find that your nails are becoming brittle than it might be a good idea to get a vitamin like Biotin, that will contribute to getting and keeping your nails healthy.  Biotin, is also good for your hair and skin.

  1. GEL NAILS / NO CHIP POLISH

If you use nail gel regularly, acrylic or no chip nail polish, it would be a good idea to give your nails a break.  What I mean is that repeatedly getting this kind of nail treatment over an extended period of time can weaken your nails.  So, after a period of getting your nails down, allow your nails to be free of gel, acrylic, and no chip polish for a couple of weeks.  Then start the whole process again.

  1. EAT A WELL BALANCED DIET

The key to having healthy nails, hair, skin and overall body conditioning is to eat well-balanced meals.  Eating the right food filled with nutrients and live enzymes will benefit you in every way. Also keeping yourself well hydrated with water throughout the day will promote nail growth.
