Wash and Go

WHAT IS A WASH AND GO?

Some people think a wash and go is simply washing your hair and then you can get up and go with beautiful curls that magically appear.  That is not the case. A wash and go is simply washing your hair, conditioning it and using a styler to rock your natural curl pattern. Depending on your hair this may be a style that is a simple go to style.  People like myself see it as a style to wear every now and then.

WHAT ITEMS /PRODUCTS DO YOU NEED TO DO A WASH AND GO?

As a novice to wearing your natural hair, you may become overwhelmed with choosing what product to use on your hair.  The items I use are a denim brush, hair clips, a handheld blow dryer, a diffuser attachment, and a rat tail comb. The products I use are shampoo, conditioner, leave in conditioner, oil and gel.  If the gel is not a moisturizing one I combine it with a Flax Seed Gel. I find that the Flax Seed Gel gives my hair moisture and shine.

HOW LONG DOES A WASH AND GO LAST?

This answer varies.  Depending on your hair and the products you use; a wash and go can last as few as three days and up to a week.  Personally, my wash and gos last about a good three days. When my hair was in a shorter stage, I could easily retouch my wash and go and it would last up to a week.  As my curls began to frizz, I generally would style my hair into a puff and wear it that way until wash day.

HOW TO MAINTAIN A WASH AND GO

A wash and go is pretty low maintenance.  As I’m getting dressed and getting ready for my day, I take the bonnet or scarf off of my head.  I fluff my hair out with my fingers and add oil if it feels a little dry. Most times I will also get my pick and lift the roots up.  As the days go by, my hair will get dry. Using my discretion, I will mist my hair or add a curling cream to my hair. At night I will put a bonnet or simply sleep on my satin pillowcase.

HOW TO REFRESH A WASH AND GO

If you decide that you want to completely refresh your wash and go you can do one or two things. One method you can do is to get your spray bottle and mist your hair and add some gel to rejuvenate your curls.  Based upon how your hair feels and looks will help you determine how much product you need to apply. Once the product is added shake your hair. This will allow the curls to clump together. Allow your hair to dry and you are back in business.  It could take up to several hours for your hair to dry depending on how thick and how much hair you have.
